When we recognize that the overwhelming majority of people who choose to enter our world are unlikely to become customers quickly, an entirely new realm of possibility opens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Instead of rushing to make a sale that\u2019s unlikely to happen (and almost certainly undermining future sales along the way), we can focus on relationships before transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The seemingly simple decision changes EVERYTHING that follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Emphasizing relationships with our audience instead of transactions frees up our time and energy to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These actions lead to three profound effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First, it\u2019s a LOT more fun and energizing to engage with audiences following the Golden Rule \u2014 \u201cDo unto others as you\u2019d have them do unto you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the Art of Email we call this principle \u201cpeople, not metrics,\u201d recognizing that every name on your list is a real person with real problems to solve and desires to fulfill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
People just like you and us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Second, you\u2019ll turbo-charge your short-term sales (probably a lot). Yes, that\u2019s counter-intuitive, but something magical happens when you genuinely treat people exceptionally well. (You may find people reaching out saying \u201cDudes, Take My Money.\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Third, when you focus on building and improving relationships (and other principles taught in the Art of Email), you\u2019ll quickly learn that it\u2019s much easier (and far more powerful) when transactions emerge organically vs. trying to engineer sales deliberately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But \u2026 the Art of Email is not for everyone. Full disclosure: it\u2019s probably not for most people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AoE requires mindset and behavioral shifts most marketers are unwilling to make.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
